Town Hall - Assenheim, Germany

Hans Jacob Schweitzer was elected to the Assenheim Village Court in 1658 in an appointment for life. His son Dieter was on the Court in 1712 when this "new" Town Hall was built - this is witnessed by his name being carved in one of the vertical timbers, along with the names of the other Jurors and the Mayor. The building of this new Town Hall was three years after Johann Michael Schweitzer and his brother Johann Christopher Schweitzer had left the Assenheim area and ended up in Ireland. Dieter later (1758-1787) became the Mayor of Assenheim.

In 2009, when visiting the Town Hall in Assenheim, the writer, his wife, brother and brother's family were taking photos and looking around when the future Mayor (Gaby Böhle - elected Mayor shortly after our trip), came from her home and asked if we would like to look inside of the Hall. It was an awesome experience, for all of us, to be in the Town Hall in the village that our ancestors had lived in Assenheim, Germany and almost 300 years after their leaving. There are a number of older wall hangings, pictures of which we have tried to include and the Hall is still in immaculate condition both inside and out and is used as the Town Hall to this day.
